Jotun FPSO
sets sail
The final sail away milestone for the Jotun FPSO life extension project at Worley Rosenberg was achieved with her sail away Jotun leaving from Instefjord quaydock at Worley Rosenberg on 15 March 2025. The Jotun FPSO’s sail away signifies a crucial advancement in the Balder X project, aiming to extend the Balder field’s life beyond 2045.
“This is a fantastic achievement for the project,” said Jan Narvestad, Managing Director at Worley Rosenberg. “Our team has worked tirelessly to reach this point. Seeing our efforts turn into results is incredibly rewarding.”
In close collaboration with Vår Energi, we are ensuring sustained production from the Balder field for decades to come, while also contributing to a balanced energy demand.
The Jotun FPSO has a longstanding connection with Worley Rosenberg. The hull first arrived at our Buøy yard from the Kværner Masa Yard in Finland in 1998. After a year at Worley Rosenberg, the Jotun FPSO was ready to start production in the North Sea.
Following over 20 years in service, Vår Energi decided to upgrade and extend Jotun’s operational life. In 2020 we proudly welcomed her back to Worley Rosenberg.
“The upgrade of the Jotun vessel has been a complex and demanding task, requiring a team of dedicated and highly skilled employees”, noted Narvestad. “Jotun has been a mega-project. Our team has stayed the course and persevered to bring this life extension project across the finish line – an outstanding accomplishment”.
Jelle Nederstigt, President for Europe & Central Asia at Worley, reflected on the journey: “In a project of this magnitude, it’s easy to focus on the challenges. But stepping back, we see the incredible achievements that have been made together.”
